Well, well, well, looks like Hyundai Motor Europe got a little surprise visit from the Black Basta ransomware gang. Apparently, these cyber tricksters claim to have made off with three whole terabytes of corporate data. That’s a lot of digital baggage!
Of course, when news of the attack first broke in early January, Hyundai was playing it cool, brushing off inquiries from BleepingComputer with a classic “Oh, it’s just some IT issues we’re sorting out.” Yeah, sure, Hyundai, we totally believe you. But after a little prodding and poking, they finally admitted, “Okay, fine, we got hit by a cyberattack.”
Now, they’re scrambling to clean up the mess, calling in the cyber cavalry of experts to figure out what the heck happened. And of course, they’re putting on their best PR face, talking about trust and security being their top priorities. Because nothing says trust like having your corporate data held for ransom, right?
As for the Black Basta ransomware gang, well, they’re the new kids on the cyber block, making waves with their double-extortion shenanigans since April 2022. They even teamed up with the QBot crew to really spice things up. Because why settle for one malware when you can have two, right?
And let’s not forget their impressive resume of victims, including the Toronto Library, American Dental Association, and even Yellow Pages Canada. Talk about hitting the big leagues!
But hey, at least they’re making bank, reportedly raking in over $100 million in ransom payments. Not bad for a bunch of cyber hoodlums, huh?
So, buckle up, folks, because it’s just another day in the wild world of cybercrime. Who knows what antics these digital desperados will get up to next?
